What is the
Engineering Academy? |
What is the Engineering
Academy?
The North Penn Engineering Academy
represents a course sequence that addresses the
educational needs of students planning on a post high
school educational program in a two or four year
college leading to a career in engineering or
engineering technology. The program offers students an
opportunity to explore potential occupational paths,
and if appropriate, to prepare for the college
experience. The Engineering Academy is for any
5.0 or 6.0 level student who is contemplating a career
in Engineering. Students who wish to enroll in The
Engineering Academy must complete the application
process available from their guidance counselor or from this
website (click
here). |

What
roles can Business and Industry play in the
Engineering Academy? |
One
of the commitments schools make in becoming
part of the Engineering Academy and the
PLTW Network
is forming the Partnership Team (PT) composed
of mentors/coaches/advisors from
business/industry, colleges, and the community.
The PT meets several times a year and assists
the teachers in the program to solve
operational problems with the curriculum.
Some examples include:
- Understanding and applying
more depth in a unit of study in the course;
- Arranging field trips to
related business/industry for students;
- Serving as mentors for
students involved in the Engineering Design
and Development (see the previous question on
Internships)
- Or any other project that
teachers identify as a need to improve the
program.
This arrangement has proven
most productive because teachers in the program
identify their needs which enhances students'
experience in their classes. |
